Treatments According to Cause:
- Uterine or vaginal prolapse: This is the main cause of voiding difficulty. Repair of the prolapse generally improves the condition.
- Recurrent urinary tract infections (especially with an abnormal residual urine volume):Long term prevention of the infections with antiseptics (or low dose antibiotics if stronger prevention is required) generally helps.
- Retaining Large Urine Volumes (Retention) after Surgery or Childbirth: Some form of catheterisation is generally required.
- Urethral Stricture: A dilatation is often required.
