Hospitalization And Postoperative Instructions

(A) HOSPITALIZATION:

Average hospital stays for the different procedures:

(i) Tensionfree Vaginal Tapes: 1-2 nights
(ii) Vaginal hysterectomy: 4-5 nights
(iii) Vaginal hysterectomy + Repairs: 4-5 nights 
(iv) Vaginal hysterectomy + Repairs + Tape: 4-5 nights 
(v) Sacrospinous Hitch + Repairs: 4-5 nights
(vi) Sacrospinous Hitch + Repairs + Tape: 4-5 nights 

(B) POSTOPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS:

(i) Tensionfree Vaginal Tapes:

Check you have a postoperative appointment immediately on discharge from hospital.

Days 1-7:

Day 6-10:

From Day 21:

From Day 28:

Other notes:

You may find you are tired and need to rest more than usual for 1-2 weeks after surgery. This will gradually improve.

If problems occur, make contact.

(ii) ALL VAGINAL HYSTERECTOMIES, VAGINAL REPAIRS (WITH / WlTHOUT TAPES)

Check you have a postoperative appointment immediately on discharge from hospital.

Days 1-42:

For women who have had a sacrospinous hitch, some discomfort in the right buttock is not uncommon for some weeks, decreasing over time. 

Day 42-56:

From Day 49:

From Day 65:

Recommendation for longer term weight-lifting: around 10KG (7 bottles champagne)

Other notes:

You may find you are tired and need to rest more than usual for 6 weeks after surgery. This will gradually improve.

If problems occur, make contact.

 (iii) ABDOMINAL HYSTERECTOMIES, (WITH/WITHOUT COLPOSUSPENSION)

Check you have a postoperative appointment immediately on discharge from hospital.

Days 1-42:

Day 42-56:

From Day 65:

Recommendation for longer term weight-lifting: around 10KG (7 bottles champagne).

You may find you are tired and need to rest more than usual for 6 weeks after surgery. This will gradually improve.
